Seed Lab Cohort: 2020/2021
Since she arrived to the United States from Guanajuato, Mexico, Sandra Ramirez has constantly worked to improve the lives of her families as well as the living conditions of her community. A resident of Coachella Valley, Sandra is using her in-depth understanding of her community needs to create not only a secure and stable present but also to shape the future. From working the fields, volunteering in church, to advocating for her family and community on various issues and supervising community programs, the safety and well-being of the youth have always been a priority.
Creating a powerful parent group advocating for their children’s education and equal opportunity is Sandra’s tool to address some of the direst challenges the youth is facing in these communities: low school graduation, high suspension rates, low reclassifications with the English Learners etc.
Coachella Valley Parents aims to provide a positive school climate and create an environment that will offer the youth every opportunity to build a healthy and successful future.
