Webinar: Fulfilling A Grant’s Terms and Next Steps

Date: October 28th, 2021

Time: 10:00 – 11:30 AM PST

Location: Virtual

This webinar is designed in partnership with the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians for this organization’s grantees and beneficiaries.

Grantors, whether they are public or private foundations, individual donors or governmental entities, have specific visions in mind when selecting their grantees. It is not unheard of for these interests to change to reflect a new approach the grantors might adopt or some new socio-economic context. The current Covid-19 pandemic and the very recent social justice movement are the perfect example of events that have generated such change.

The grantors’ mission and vision are not limited to the RFP. They are fully reflected as well in the way the recipient is expected to report back as it is by means of the grantee’s work that the grantor is fulfilling its mission and achieving its vision. While many of the requirements are stated in the contract or the agreement signed between the parties, reporting to the grantor goes beyond a checklist of elements and in many cases is a process that starts before the grant is received and ends after the grant period comes to an end.

This webinar provides a practical road map on how to better meet the grantors’ expectations and maximize the opportunities provided by a grant to generate long term benefits to the organization. The workshop focuses on three time frames: pre-grant period, grant period and post grant-period. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Setting up the right internal protocols and processes to efficiently manage grants;
  • Understanding a grant agreement, compliance and governance issues;
  • Financial reporting: documenting expenses, accounting, budgeting;
  • Implementation: pre-grant and during the grant period;
  • Monitoring and evaluation: from grantor’s expectations to building the organization’s database;
  • Communications strategies: between praising the grantor and self-promoting;
  • Revenue generating strategies: grants as revenue generators;
  • Building organizational wealth: using a grant to grow the organization.

The webinar is designed by the Caravanserai Project team based on its experience in working with various funders from foundations to individual donors, as well as consulting with mission-driven organizations on strategic planning and networking.

This webinar is conducted by the Caravanserai Project team.

The San Manuel Band of Mission Indians is a federally-recognized Indian tribe located on the San Manuel Indian Reservation near Highland, California.
